Nice visuals from Visitacion Valley Middle School today, when First Tee’s local chapter and golf stars Nick Faldo and Paul Azinger were on hand to help students open a new driving range, putting green, and grass chipping area at the school.
First Tee of San Francisco’s mission is to bring golf to low-income students by providing learning facilities and educational programs. Golf, the organization believes, promotes nine core values that are essential to success in life: honesty, judgment, responsibility, perseverance, integrity, sportsmanship, confidence, respect, and courtesy.
It was really weird that the Chronicle ran a letter to the editor from some alleged SFUSD high school parent claiming that her child has no textbooks at all (it’s my understanding that there aren’t any shortages that severe in SFUSD schools), and then the same day there was the First Tee story. Also, by the way, Jim Dierke is a BORN PR person — in contrast to most educators, who really are unclear on that concept.
